One of Nigeria’s finest highlife musicians and saxophonist, Orlando Julius, has passed on at the age of 79.
The news of his death was announced on Friday by the Managing Director of Evergreen Music, Bimbo Esho.
“Bimbo, Daddy Has Passed On….This was the message I stumbled on waking up at exactly 3 am to peruse my WhatsApp page. It was a message sent to me by Orlando Julius’ beautiful and supportive wife Lady Latoya”, Esho posted.
Starting in the ’60s, Orlando Julius was known for fusing traditional African sounds and rhythms with those of American pop, soul, and R & B.
Some of his songs include Alo Mi Alo, Sangodele, Jaiyede Afro, In the Middle, Buje Buje, among others.
Orlando Julius was a native of Ijebu Ijesha.
The cause of his death is yet to be confirmed.
