A legal practitioner, Barrister Foluso Olapo, has warned that it is illegal for persons below the age of sixteen to engage in sex under the pretext of valentine’s celebration.
The legal practitioner gave the warning while featuring live on Oluyole FM discussion programme, Breakfast Fiesta, where issues on the Valentine’s Day celebration were explored.
Barrister Olapo said it is illegal for persons below the age of sixteen to engage sexual activities as they are considered minors.
He further warned that anyone who engaged in sexual activities with a minor could go to jail if caught and prosecuted and that it does matter if the act was mutual or otherwise.
Also, featured on the programmes was a marriage and relationship expert, Mrs Adetutu Osofowora.
Expressing her views on valentine’s day celebration Mrs. Osofowora said that the day should be used to foster friendship and platonic love.
She furthered condemned wanton sex and other immoral acts that are usually prevalent among youths during the celebration of valentine’s day.
The dou encourage people to seize the Valentine’s Day celebration as an opportunity to show genuine love and concern to people around.
Valentine’s Day, also called Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14.
It originated as a Western Christian feast day honouring one or two early saints named Valentinus and is recognised as a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world.
