PRESIDENT BUHARI, WORLD LEADERS MOURN DEMISE OF QUEEN ELIZABETH

President Muhammadu Buhari has mourned the passing of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.

The President, in a statement on Thursday evening, said he received the news of the death of the monarch with immense sadness.

Commiserating with the Royal Family, he noted that Her late Majesty was the only British sovereign known to 90 percent of the Nigerian population with her unique and wonderful 70-year reign.

President Buhari added that the story of modern Nigeria will never be complete without a chapter on Queen Elizabeth II, whom he described as a towering global personality and an outstanding leader

In the same vein, other world leaders and dignitaries have also been paying tributes to the late monarch; among whom are US President Joe Biden, France’s Emmanuel Macron, and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

They have honoured her deep sense of duty and her resilience, as well as the Queen’s sense of humour and kindness.

Flags have been lowered to half-mast around the world – including at the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium.
