The Anambra State Police Command has busted a hotel in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state, where teenage girls are used as sex slaves.
The spokesman of the Anambra Police Command, Ikenga Tochukwu, made this known in a statement issued to newsmen.
According to the report, 35 girls were rescued from the hotel known as Gally Gally, out of which four are pregnant.
“The police also arrested three persons namely: Mrs Ifeoma Uzo age ‘F’ 35yrs, Chidiebere Alaka ‘M’ 28years, and Nweke Chidiebere.
“We recovered three pump action guns, seven cartridges, and a cash sum of Eight hundred and seventy-seven thousand, five hundred Naira (₦877,500). The suspects arrested are being interrogated with a view to eliciting information on their involvement and unmasking other gang members”, the statement read.
The girls, when interrogated, said they came from different parts of the country, including Anambra, Delta, Rivers, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Benue States, among others.
They recounted that they were tricked into the business in the name of coming to work as salesgirls, after which they were locked up and camped without their family members knowing their whereabouts.
The Anambra Police Spokesman said the victims have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for welfare and rehabilitation.
He added that the owner of the hotel and the other suspects fled when the police team led by the Onitsha Police Area Commander, Mr. John Obuagbaka, stormed the hotel.
