The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of the State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism Yakubu Lawal by gunmen.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ramhan Nansel confirmed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Lafia, the state capital.

Lawal was kidnapped from his residence in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the state on Monday night after sporadic shootings.

The Police Spokesperson said that the search and rescue operation is ongoing by the combined team, led by Area Commander, Akwanga Area Command, ACP Halliru Aliyu to rescue the victim unhurt and arrest the perpetrators of the crime.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adesina Soyemi, has also strengthened the operatives with a combined detachment of the Police Mobile Force, military personnel, the Anti kidnapping unit, vigilante as well as local hunters.

The CP further asked the public to avail the State Police Command of useful information that will lead to the rescue of the victim or arrest of the suspects.
