PARTY PRIMARIES: OYO INEC ANNOUNCES END TO PROCESSES

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Oyo State, has announced that all primaries for the nomination of candidates by Political Parties in the State for the 2023 general elections end on Thursday, June 09, 2022, as captured in the Electoral Act 2022.

In a press statement released on Thursday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Barr Mutiu Agboke, stated that all Political Parties have between Friday, June 10, and next week Friday to submit their lists of candidates for national elections.

The release added that State elections lists shall be uploaded from July 1 to 15, 2022, as provided in the timetable and schedule of activities for the general elections.

Barr Agboke further stated that all Political Parties are required to upload the details of their candidates for each Constituency to the INEC Candidates Nomination Portal (ICNP) as the Portal will automatically shut down from 6:00p.m on Friday, June 17, 2022, for National Election; and 6:00p.m on Friday 15 July 2022 for State Election.

The Oyo INEC boss emphasised that only names of candidates that emerged from democratic primaries as provided by Section 84 of the Electoral Act 2022 shall be submitted to the Commission; adding that list of all Presidential and Governorship candidates must be accompanied by the names of their running mates accordingly.
