The Chairman, Oyo State Chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, (JUSUN), Comrade Kayode Martins has called on the 36 State Governments to accede to the Union’s demand for financial autonomy of the Judiciary.
Comrade Martins who is also the Chairman of the Oyo State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) made the call while featuring on the BCOS TV Breakfast Programme ‘AM120’.
He pointed out that financial autonomy would enable the Judiciary to properly check the excesses of the Executive arm of Government.
He added that such autonomy would also help the Judiciary carry out its responsibilities without any hindrance from the Executive.
Comrade Martins further said the agitation for financial autonomy by the judicial arm of Government is in line with Nigeria’s Constitution and in tandem with the Principle of Separation of Powers.
