 Oyo Govt Commences Evacuation Of Beggars

The Government of Oyo State has commenced the evacuation of beggars from the shanties on Jemibewon Road, Sabo area of Ibadan, to the newly built Akinyele Resettlement Centre.

The evacuation process, which started months ago, formally commenced at 7a.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, following a tour of the new site by Arewa Community Leaders and representatives of the beggars on Saturday, June 12, 2021.

The State’s Commissioner for Environment, Barrister Idowu Oyeleke, who led the first set of evacuees to Akinyele, said the new site is fitted with social amenities including Schools, Hospitals, and Recreation Centres.

According to BCOS Governor’s Office Correspondent, Olalekan Sulaiman, some members of colony were seeing vacating and parking their belongings into Oyo Pace Setters transit buses provided by the States Government for the purpose, while some abled men among them were busy dismantling their shacks.
