Observing with dismay the rising cases of fire incidents in Oyo State, the State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Shina T. Olukolu, has advised all citizens in the State on the need to put stringent measures in place to forestall future occurrence, especially during this harmattan season.
According to a statement issued by the State Police PRO, SP Fadeyi Olugbenga, the CP therefore sensitizes all the good people of the State to endeavour to switch off all electrical appliances when not in use or when they are out of their various abodes, to prevent electrical upsurge and sparks that may eventually lead to fire outbreak and destruction of lives and property.
He also enlightens the citizens that pots and pans of frying oil can easily overheat and cause fire easily if the person cooking gets distracted, while portable heaters are better kept at least, some metres away from anything that could easily become inflammable such as furnitures, curtains, laundry and clothing materials.
The Commissioner also observed with trepidation and unwitting criminal implication of the unlawful covering of vehicle number plates by some individuals or personalities in State in flagrance disregard for the laws of the land in spite of several warnings in the past.
The Police authority in the State is highly worried by this ugly trend, and have resolved to enforce the arrest of any individual caught in this regards; nothing that the spread of these act of lawlessness portends great danger to all and sundry in this era of armed robberies and kidnappings.
He therefore wishes to warn all and sundry in the State once again to desist from this unlawful practice as all the arrested offenders after this warning will be prosecuted.
