The Oyo State House of Assembly has suspended the Chairman of Olorunsogo Local Government, Mrs. Oluwakemi Akanni over allegations from the Traditional Council of the Local Government.
The suspension was due to a petition forwarded by the Olorunsogo Traditional Council and signed by 10 members.
According to the petition titled TOTAL EXCLUSIVENESS FROM THE GOVERNANCE OF OLORUNSOGO which was read on the floor of the House by the clerk, Mrs. Yetunde Awe, the Chairman used her office to tread on the rights of the Traditional Council, non-payment of their benefits for the past 13 months and lack of respect to the traditional stools.
The house however unanimously stated that the Chairman, Mrs. Oluwakemi Akanni and her Vice Chairman should hand over all property in her possession to the leader of the legislative house, Bamikunle Adetunji, pending the investigation of the whole matter.
The State Assembly received another petition from the Councillors of Ido local government that the Chairman of the local government, Mr. Sherrif Adeojo, had been suspended by the legislative arm of the council.
A motion was also presented on the floor of the house on the need for investigation into the activities of Chairmen of the 33 local governments.
The motion was sponsored by Hon. Babajide Adebayo, Hon. Akeem Mustapha and Hon. Abdullahi Rasak .
The state Assembly also read for the second time the state gaming and lottery board bill 2022
The house has since adjourned sitting till Tuesday 16th August 2022.
