The Northern Governors Wives Forum (NGWF) has launched cancer prevention awareness campaign in Borno for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to raise awareness on its menace.
The wife of Kebbi State Governor, Dr Zainab Bagudu and also the Secretary of the forum said this at the campaign ceremony held at Mohammed Goni IDPs camp in Maiduguri.
She stated that cancer
is a very dreaded disease that needs priority and attention and we should avoid
those things that trigger cancer in our lives as we need to campaign against
drug abuse, which may be very high in camps like this.
Bagudu added that if nothing is done to curb cancer spread and make it priority by the year 2030, Africa and Nigeria will have a significant death from cancer.
Also speaking, Dr
Falmata Zulum, Wife of the Borno State Governor, said that the forum donated
relief items to persons affected by the insurgency at the IDPs camps.
A cancer patient, Malama Hadiza, commended the forum for the campaign awareness toward reducing cancer and stated that cancer patients also face stigma and in most cases gets abandoned by their families due to financial challenges.
She however appealed to
the forum to launch an appeal fund to support cancer patients in the country.
