The women’s national U-17 team of Nigeria known as Flamingos has beat the USA in a match qualifying the team for the semi-finals of the Women’s World Cup, which would be the first in the nation’s history.
The ladies won on penalties 4-3 after full-time ended 1-1.
In the 27th minute, Omamuzo Edafe opened scoring for Flamingos in the penalty spot but Amalia Villarreal’s deflected effort put the Americans level at the 40th minute.
They will take on the winner of the other quarter-final between Tanzania and Columbia.
The semi-final is scheduled for the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Margao on Wednesday, October 26, 2022.
