The national electricity grid suffered a system collapse on Friday, the second time in four weeks.

Electricity distribution companies confirmed the national grid collapse on Friday evening while urging Nigerians to be patient.

In a tweet, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company said, ”hello, please be informed that there has just been a national grid collapse causing an outage in our franchise areas. We apologise for the inconvenience caused and appeal that you bear with us while we await restoration from the TCN. We regret all inconvenience caused.”

Similarly, Kano Electricity Distribution Company  which is responsible for distributing electricity between Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States, also tweeted, ”we write to inform our numerous customers in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States that the current power outage is due to a system collapse on the National Grid. Which as a result causes the current power outage on our network. We sincerely apologise for any inconveniences this may cause to our customers.”

In the same vein, Jos electricity distribution company stated, ”Dear customers, there was a loss of supply as a result of the result of the system collapse Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) about 6:30 p.m. across all our franchise states of Bauchi, Benue, Gombe and Plateau”.
