The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has raised concerns over the theft and destruction of telecommunication equipment and other infrastructures across the nation.
The Chairman, NCC Board of Commissioners, Prof Adeolu Akande, while speaking at a stakeholders’ forum organised by the Commission in Ibadan, charged residents of the town and Nigerians, in general, to always report suspicious movements around telecoms installations to security agencies.
The telecom regulatory agency urged people to take ownership of the infrastructure and protect them from thieves and vandals.
Akande said so many aspects of the economy relied on telecommunications, adding that disruption of telecom services by any means would have a negative effect on almost every other sector.
He, therefore, said that the protection of public infrastructure is a collective effort and not only meant for NCC.
