The Oyo State Police Command will not fold its arm and allow any miscreants to disturb the existing peace in the State.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Shina Olukolu, reaffirmed this in an interview with BCOS Reporter, Abiodun Akinkunle, who monitored activities at motor parks within Ibadan metropolis on Monday, February 17, 2020.
BCOS Reporter who went round the city observed that parks were peaceful as most commercial drivers were standing in groups discussing, while some said they have not seen the Park Manager as at 11:00a.m.
The situation was peaceful and calm at Gate and a section of Iwo road known as Lagos Park, but there was the heavy presence of security men at the Ife and Abuja motor park.
Our reporter noted that the Security presence at Iwo Road interchange was a combination of all Security Agencies in the State, which led to a total gridlock as vehicles were not allowed in to Ibadan and were not allowed to move out of the city.
The tension at Iwo road became more heightened as the appointed Chairman of the State Motor Parks Disciplinary Committee, Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi, also known as Auxiliary, came to Iwo road and was followed by some of his loyalists.
While speaking with the BCOS Reporter, the State CP said having received several phones calls and a trending social media video by a group of people threatening to foment trouble in the State led to a proactive step by the Police to secure the parks in the State.
He added that the presence of the Security Agents would still be maintained until the tension within the parks is reduced.
It would be recalled that the NURTW has been proscribed in Oyo State and still remain proscribed; the Park Managers are therefore expected to oversee the activities at Motor Parks in the State.
