Residents and traders in Olorunshogo area of Mushin, Lagos State, were thrown into panic on Saturday, January 25, 2020, when fire gutted the Amu timber market in the area, destroying properties worth millions of naira.
The fire, according to reports gathered, started around 12:00a.m and ranged for hours.
Speaking to Journalists, the Acting Head of Lagos State Fire Service, Margaret Adeseye, who confirmed the incident, said, “we are still trying to put out the fire. We received the call around 1:00a.m and as I speak to you, the fire is raging,” adding that no casualty has been recorded.
The Cause of the inferno is yet to be ascertained, as large numbers of people are seen gathered helpless, as the fire tore through.
The Fire which, according to reports, started around 12:00a.m on Saturday is still spreading to unaffected areas of the market and residential houses around.
As at the time of filing this report, Lagos State Emergency response Agencies are already on ground, fighting the inferno.
This is the second major fire incident in Lagos State in the month of January; the first being the fire at Abule Egbe, where some NNPC Pipelines exploded.
