The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami has declared his intention to run for the Kebbi state governorship in 2023.
In a video posted by Arise TV on Tuesday, Malami says “If God in his mercies permits, and all goes well, I will as a politician contest the governorship of Kebbi state. I am seeking your support.”
Stressing that he has a sterling record of being loyal, the nation’s attorney general solicited the support of Kebbi State residents to realise his governorship ambition.
“I want to announce that I will contest indeed, and as such, I am counting on your prayers and support so that we can all work and survive the race together,” he added. “I have no history of betrayal, and I won’t betray you, people. I will work for you.”
Prior to his announcement, the AGF has been fighting relentlessly for the deletion of section 84(12) of the Electoral, which mandates the resignation of political appointees seeking political office in an election.
He lost the Kebbi governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to Atiku Bagudu, the state governor, in 2014.
