Oyo State Governor Engr Seyi Makinde has expressed commitment of his administration in establishing a comprehensive data base and proper identity management system that would aid effective planning in the state.
The Governor made this known while officially flagging off the state residents registration exercise at the executive council chamber, Governor’s office, Agodi, Ibadan.
Governor Makinde explained that though Nigeria has a challenge of identity management but Oyo state is determined to achieve what the Federal Government could not by establishing a system to know who is who and who lives where.
In his remarks, the Special Assistant to the Governor on ICT and E-governance, Bayo Akande Jnr, said beyond providing adequate data for planning and budgeting, data gathered could also help address challenges of insecurity, noting that an elaborate media campaign and sensitization to increase awareness will soon come up in the state.
He equally stressed that the registration exercise would cut across all local government areas in the state, as well as various sectors.
Highlight of the flag off was the official registration of Governor Seyi Makinde as a resident of Oyo state.
