LG, PENSION BOARD COMPLEX: MAKINDE FROWNS AT LOW PACE OF WORK, ISSUES 3-MONTH ULTIMATUM

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has inspected the ongoing  construction of Oyo State Local Government Service Commission and Local Government Staff Pension Board, secretariat complex, within the State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the low pace of work being done by the contractors and issued a three month ultimatum to the contractor to deliver the project.

The governor, who led some government officials to the project site, behind Water Corporation Building, Secretariat, Ibadan, said that while the quality of the work is not bad, it was unacceptable that a project scheduled for completion within 10 months cannot be completed in two years.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Taiwo Adisa, disclosed that Governor Makinde has approved the payment of the additional N150 million requested by the contractor after he had provided a performance bond.

Speaking with newsmen at the project site, the governor, explained that he has asked the Commission to release funds for the quick completion of the project, adding that the project is expected to be completed in the next three months according to the new timeliness provided by the contractor.

Responding to claims that the project was hampered by inflationary trends in the economy, Makinde maintained that while his administration does not want contractors to do business with the State and go bankrupt,  the state will also not be ripped off.

The inspection had in attendance, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon Segun Ogunwuyi,  the Commissioner for Public Works, Infrastructure and Transport, Prof Dahud Sangodoyin, Chairman, Oyo State Local Government Service Commission/Local Government Staff Pension Board, Hon. Aderemi Ayodele, the Permanent Secretary of the commission, Mr. Akin Funmilayo, Director-General Due Process Office, Ms. Tara Adefope  and a host of others.
