KIDNAPPED UI EX-DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR, AGBAJE RELEASED

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the release of a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Adigun Agbaje, from the kidnappers’ den.

The confirmation was given on Monday morning by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP. Adewale Osifeso, in Ibadan.

Also, the Head of the Department of Political Science, University of Ibadan in a telephone conversation with newsmen who also confirmed the release added that the former DVC was undergoing a medical checkup.

It was earlier reported that Prof. Agbaje and other travelers, including two female students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, were kidnapped on Friday evening very close to the Sat Guru Maharaji Garden on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The kidnappers had reportedly contacted Agbaje’s family for a ransom of N50 million for his release, while they demanded a sum of N10 million each for the release of the two students.

The police did not, however, give details of the release of the other kidnapped travellers.
