The Oyo State Government has rolled out a comprehensive list of weeklong activities for the nation’s 61st independence anniversary celebrations.
The weeklong activities kicked off with a special Anniversary Jumat Service held on Friday, September 24, at the Central Mosque Oja Oba, in Ibadan.
According to a release, the independence anniversary programmes will continue on Sunday, September 26, with a special Thanksgiving Service at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Aremo, Ibadan at 10:00 a.m.
Also, quiz and essay competitions will hold on Wednesday, September 29, at the Ministry of Education, Secretariat, Ibadan, at 10:00 a.m.
In addition, an Independence Anniversary Walk has been scheduled for Friday, October 1. This will be followed by a march-past by students in public and private schools as well as voluntary organisations at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
Governor Seyi Makinde is expected to take the salute at the Independence Anniversary Parade. Other scheduled highlights for the day include cultural display and cycling.
The State Government has in the meantime pledged adequate security for children and all participants at the Independence Day Anniversary event.
