The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has disclosed that Ramoni Igbalode better known on instagram as Hushpuppi is being investigated by the agency over alleged cybercrimes.
The EFCC revealed that it was working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to identify and prosecute local partners of Ramoni Igbalode.
Nigeria’s anti-crime body revealed this on Thursday in a tweet on its official handle, @officialEFCC, where it described Hushpuppi as “Nigerian most-wanted hacker”.
“Nigerian most-wanted hacker, Ramoni Igbalode, alias Ray hushpuppy, recently arrested by the International Police(Interpol) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI), has considerable cases of cybercrimes being investigated by the EFCC,” the commission said.
It added that the commission was familiar with details of his money laundering transactions by the suspect.
“The Commission is familiar with grisly details of his money laundering transactions, involving many high-profile cyber criminals facing trial in Nigeria.”
“The EFCC said it is working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in tracing victims of Hushpuppi’s alleged fraudulent transactions.”
“Local cyber criminals with money laundering networks with him, are also being investigated,” the agency explained.
Hushpuppi, 38, was arrested on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 in United Arab Emirates in connection with $35million ventilator scam.
Security officials in the UAE arrested him and 12 others for cyber fraud targeting companies and individuals.
