The House of Representatives has approved the establishment of the Southwest Development Commission (SWDC) and the Southeast Development Commission (SEDC).
The House also approved special financial support for the revamping of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
These followed the consideration and adoption of several clauses and recommendations in three reports of Bills seeking the establishment of Southwest, Southeast Development Commissions, and a special fund for the Armed Forces.
The report on a Bill for an Act to Establish the Southwest Development Commission was presented by the Chairman of the House Committee on Justice, Ozurigbo Ugonna.
He said the Commission would, among others, be charged with the responsibility to receive and manage funds from allocations of the federation account, including donations and gifts, the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads, houses, and other infrastructural damages suffered by the region.
Similarly, the House received and approved the report of the Southeast Development Commission presented by the Deputy Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, who stated that the Commission when established will speed up the development of the Southeast region.
