The Gombe State Muslim Pilgrims Board announced the death of a lecturer at the state university, Dr Abdulrahaman Gona, on Thursday in Saudi Arabia.
Gona, a lecturer in the department of Islamic Studies, was one of the recently constituted board members by Governor Muhammadu Yahaya to airlift pilgrims to the holy land.
Announcing the pilgrim’s passage in a statement issued by the board’s head of media, Hauwa Muhammad, on behalf of the executive secretary Sa’adu Adamu, regretted the demise.
He revealed that the deceased died after a brief ailment, and would be buried based on Islamic tenets.
The statement partly read that the death of Alhaji Dr Abdulrahaman Umar Mai Gona occurred today in Saudi after a brief illness.
Gona was a newly appointed Board Member, of the Gombe State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, by the Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
The Board is on its feet in ensuring his timely burial as stipulated in Islam and prays that May his soul rest in peace.
News reports that following the completion of this year’s hajj, the board commenced the distribution of luggage bags in preparation for the airlift of 1,007 pilgrims.
