The Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has sympathized with victims of an early Sunday morning fire that razed down the popular Akesan market in Oyo town.
Gov. Makinde urged the victims to remain calm as the fire incident and its aftermath will be duly investigated.
The Governor commiserated with the victims of the fire incident via his official twitter handle.
He wrote: “I received with shock, the news of the fire outbreak at Oja Akesan in Oyo Town, in the early hours of this morning (Sunday morning). Words cannot convey my deep sadness at this incident and I sympathize with the victims. I appeal for calm as we investigate the circumstances around the unfortunate incident.”
The popular Akesan market in Oyo town was early Sunday morning engulfed by fire leaving little or nothing to be salvaged.
According to sources fire fighters were unable to put out the fire abruptly due to limited equipment
However, to battle the raging inferno, a reinforcement of fire fighter has been mobilised from Ibadan, the capital city and Ogbomosho, which is about 50 kilometres away.
But, the situation escalated when the youths vented their anger on the fire service. The youths, in their hundreds, had stormed the fire station burning tyres in the process.
The situation was said to have attracted the attention of the security operatives to attempted to restore normalcy to the community.
In the course of the protest carried out by the youths three persons were feared dead.
The Police are currently investigating the course of the fire outbreak and its aftermath.
