Germany captain Manuel Neuer has praised Bayern Munich team-mates Jerome Boateng and Thomas Mueller and believes they could yet return to the national squad having been dropped by coach Joachim Loew.
“I think that Jogi Loew has not closed the door completely,” Neuer said Tuesday at a Bayern press conference.
“Those responsible will decide at the right time.”
Mueller and Boateng, along with Mats Hummels of Borussia Dortmund, won the 2014 World Cup but were excluded by Loew in early 2019 as he looked to refresh the team.
But after Germany’s Nations League campaign ended with a 6-0 loss to Spain last month, calls for the trio to be brought back have grown.
Mueller and Boateng have been in “very good form” for Bayern, said Neuer. “They concentrate on their job and their work. Both are playing in a successful team.
“I think they concentrate fully on their personnel performance and the performance of the team. That will also then be decisive for both in the future.”
