FIFA FINES NIGERIA ₦63.9M OVER MKO ABIOLA STADIUM INVASION

The international governing body of association football, FIFA, has fined Nigeria CHF150,000 which is equivalent to ₦63,996,216.90 for the violence that erupted at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on March 29, following the country’s failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The displeased football fans had on the day, vandalised facilities at the Stadium when the Super Eagles played 1-1 draw with the Black Stars of Ghana.

In a statement on its official website, FIFA gave reasons for these sanctions as inability to implement “order and security at matches (failure to implement existing safety rules and failure to ensure that law and order are maintained in the stadium, invasion of the field of play and throwing of objects.”
