Government at all levels have been urged to engage professional Pharmacists in attaining herd-immunity for citizens of the country.
A Clinical Pharmacist, Mr Kunle Tometi stated this on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at an advocacy meeting, tagged “attaining herd-immunity through preventive services in health care delivery; the role of pharmacists”, organised by the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Oyo State Chapter at Western Hall Secretariat, Ibadan.
Pharmacist Tometi stated that herd-immunity is resistance to the spread of an infectious disease which will disrupt chains of infection; adding that herd immunity is important at this time of COVID-19 to keep the community safe, hence, the need for Government to carry along professional pharmacists in administering and protecting vaccines.
Earlier in his remarks, the State Chairman of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Pharmacist Oguntoye Adegboyega stated that the absence and deficiency of Pharmacists in Health Agencies, Local Government Health Services and community immunization programs suggests retrogression.
Others who contributed at the meeting called on citizens of the Country to receive COVID-19 vaccine because it is safe.
