Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami, has ordered the nation’s Director of Public Prosecution to begin immediate prosecution of those who violate the Federal Government’s order suspending Twitter operations in Nigeria.
Mr Malami’s Spokesman, Mr Umar Gwandu disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, June 5, 2021.
The Federal Government had on Friday, June 4, 2021, ordered all internet service providers to suspend Twitter.
However, many Nigerians have been using the Virtual Private Networks (VPN) to circumvent the ban.
The AGF asked the Director of Public Prosecution to swing into action and commence in earnest the process of prosecution of violators of the Federal Government’s De-activation of operations of Twitter.
He further told the Director of Public Prosecution to liaise with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, Nigerian Communications Commission and other relevant Government Agencies to ensure the speedy prosecution of offenders.
