One inmate reportedly died while 12 others were injured during a fight that grew rapidly into an attempted jailbreak at the Port Harcourt correctional facility on Monday afternoon.
It was gathered that two inmates were engaged in a fight leading to the death of one of them, and an eventual protest ensued amongst other inmates.
The situation was said to get out of proportion as many inmates tried to scale the facility’s high walls.

They were however repelled by a combined team of security operatives who shot outside the fence, with 12 of them sustaining bullet wounds.
The incident was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Port Harcourt correctional facility, Juliet Ofoni.
