A former Deputy Governor of Zamfara State Alhaji Ibrahim Wakkala, is currently recuperating in a medical facility in Kaduna from a gunshot injury he sustained during the attack on a Abuja-Kaduna train on Monday.
The train conveying hundreds of passengers from Abuja to Kaduna was attacked by gunmen suspected to be bandits between Katari and Rijana in Kaduna State.
The former media aide to the ex-deputy governor, Yusuf Idris told newsmen that Alhaji Ibrahim Wakkala was shot in the leg during the attack while returning from the APC National Convention which held on Saturday.
“He is responding to treatment very well. He is answering phone calls in his bed. I spoke to him and several other people spoke to him also. There is no cause for alarm,” Yusuf said.
The spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, Yusuf Idris who also confirmed the incident said the former Deputy Governor was initially abducted by the terrorists during the attack and was successfully rescued by the combined forces of DSS and Military.
“He was initially abducted but was rescued by the DSS and military, it was during the process he sustain gunshot injury in the leg.” “He is very okay now, he is receiving treatment at the hospital in Kaduna state.” Idris added
