The Police authorities in Lagos State has raided a nightclub in the State and arrested many fun-seekers in a bid to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Channels TV reports that the operation was carried out by the Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr Hakeem Odumosu, on Saturday, January 9, 2021.
A total of 237 culprits were arrested and moved to the State Force Headquarters at Ikeja.
Channels TV added that Eighty-five of the suspects were arrested at the Lounge 38 in Bode Thomas Street, Surulere and 152 others at Club Victoria in Victoria Island.
Six people were also apprehended for allegedly violating the midnight to 4:00am curfew in the State.
The suspects were later paraded by the Police who vowed to charge them to Court soon.
Despite series of warnings by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and health authorities against gatherings beyond approved numbers, many Nigerians have continued to defy the order.
The result has been an exponential spike in the number of COVID-19 infections across the country, with Lagos State remaining the epicentre of the pandemic in the country, recording its highest number of infections of 807 on Thursday, January 7, 2021.
