The Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government Council of Ondo State, Mr Abayomi Adesanya, distributed face masks to residents on Friday, April 24, 2020, as part of efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus in the area.
This development came hours after the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu had ordered the compulsory use of face masks by residents of the state to prevent the spread of the virus.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the masks were distributed at market places, army barracks, police stations and heath centres among other places in the council.
Mr Adesanya, who was represented during the distribution exercise by his Press Secretary, Mr Martins Fasusi, said the initiative was to complement the efforts of the state government in the fight against the pandemic.
He also said that the residents of the council needed to be aware of the existence of the virus and should take preventive measures against it.
The Chairman however urged the people to follow all precautionary measures listed out by the government and health workers and should always practice social distancing at all times.
