Britain’s longest serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth II has passed on at the age of 96, on Thursday afternoon.
“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow,” the Royal Family tweeted on Thursday.
It was reported earlier in the day that the Queen was under medical supervision at Balmoral Castle in Scotland after her doctors became worried about her health.
Her eldest son, Charles, who is also the former Prince of Wales, will lead the country in mourning as the new King and head of state for 14 Commonwealth realms.
Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor was born in Mayfair, London, on April 21, 1926. She reigned for 70 years.
