Mrs Evelyn Bruce, who is the wife of a former Senator representing Bayelsa East Senatorial District, Ben Murray-Bruce, has died of cancer.
Her husband, Murray-Bruce, took to his official Twitter handle to make the disclosure on Friday.
Sen. Murray-Bruce, who said that his wife will be greatly missed by him and his family, called on the general public to pray for his family.
He wrote, “Our children are devastated, I am too. But I have to be strong for them. Please put our family in your prayers. Like the sun, my wife was a blessing and touched the lives of everyone she met. Though she’s gone, she’d remain alive in our hearts forever.”
The former Senator also advocated for more awareness on early detection in order to ensure that cancer is not a death sentence on the patient.
“She was my best friend for 43 years and my wife for 41 years. Cancer is real, but it shouldn’t be a death sentence – awareness, and early detection and treatment are key to survival. I miss her so so much. I’m broken.’’ he wrote.
According to the World Health Organisation, WHO, breast cancer is the most frequent cancer among women, impacting 2.1 million women each year, and also causes the greatest number of cancer-related deaths among women.
