Former First Ladies including Patience Jonathan and Turai Yar’Adua gathered in Abuja, on Thursday, January 30, 2020 in remembrance of Maryam Babangida, ten years after her demise.
The event was hosted by the present First Lady, Aisha Buhari and organised by Aisha Babangida, daughter of the former Military President Ibrahim Babangida. In attendance was also the wife of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.
“The event was tagged, Mother of the Nation History Revised 2020.
The First Lady applauded Maryam Babangida and her legacies adding that former First Ladies should continue in this clime of meeting and sharing their experiences.
She added that the armchair discussion and the experience sharing by the First Ladies were quite interesting and inspiring. She commended the effort of Aisha Babangida for putting the event together, and also suggested that Former First Ladies should continue to explore avenues for sharing their experiences as it will enhance the Programmes of the next future First Ladies as well as shape the future of the younger generations.
Maryam Babangida was the wife of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, who was Nigeria’s head of state. She died in December 2009.
