AIRLINES OPERATE AS UNIONS PICKET NAMA, NCAA OFFICES IN LAGOS

There is no disruption to flight services on Monday despite the picketing of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) offices at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos by the industry unions.

Three unions; the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (NAPA), Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE), had earlier threatened to shut down four out of the six agencies in the sector over the failure of the Salaries and Wages Commission to address the Condition of Service (CoS) of their members, which had been approved since 2014.

However, one of the signatory unions to the two days warning strike, NAPA, opted out of the planned action last night, citing misinformation on the part of the other two.

Though hundreds of the two agency workers were locked outside their office premises, scheduled operations have been going on unhindered.

Also, officers of the Nigeria Police were on the ground at the two agencies to prevent the breakdown of law and order.

At the international wing of the airport, it was gathered that the Nigeria Airforce (NAF) personnel were forced open the control towers earlier locked by the unions, which gave access to Air Traffic Controllers (ATCs) to resume duty.
