Two Senators, Abdullahi Adamu representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District and Abubakar Kyari representing Borno North has resigned from the Senate to enable them concentrate on their jobs at the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers announced their resignation in separate letters read by Senate President Ahmad Lawan during plenary on Tuesday.
Adamu, whose resignation takes effect from 1st April 2022, sent in his resignation letter following his election as the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on March 26.
Until his election as APC Chairman, Adamu chaired the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development while Kyari was the Chairman of the Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Kyari had also emerged National Chairman and Deputy National Chairman (North) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the party’s March 26 convention.
With the exit of Senator Adamu and Kyari, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was expected to conduct a by-election within a statutory period of three months for a replacement.
