The Federal Government of Nigeria has signed an agreement with the United States of America for the repatriation of the sum of $23 million, as part of assets looted by the country’s former military dictator, General Sani Abacha.

The agreement signing ceremony was held in the office of the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Mr Abubakar Malami, who signed on behalf of the Federal Government on Tuesday.

In the same manner, the U.S Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard signed on the behalf of the United States government.

Malami noted that the assets recovery was made possible with the cooperation of the governments of the United States and the United Kingdom and would be used in the infrastructural development of the country.

Among such projects would be the ongoing Abuja-Kaduna road and the 2nd Niger Bridge.
