Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Inspector General of Police Usman Baba has approved a three-day retreat for senior police officers.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Police spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi, according to him, the retreat was part of efforts by the force to
ensure stability in internal security and a safe environment conducive for the conduct of the general elections in 2023.
The retreat will be held between October 18 and 21 in Imo, with the theme: The Imperative of a Nigeria Police Strategic Plan for Peaceful Elections”
According to the statement, participants at the retreat will be senior officers of the rank of deputy inspectors general of police (DIG), assistant inspectors general of police (AIG), police commissioners, and other heads of police formations.
The statement also revealed that other participants would be carefully selected security and election management experts across the world to engage in peer review and cross-fertilization of ideas.
The retreat is to ensure effective management of security before, during, and after the elections and provide an opportunity for senior officers to interact with key officials from sister security agencies, INEC, and international development partners
Dignitaries expected at the event include Governors, service chiefs, heads of other security agencies, and past inspectors general of police with the opening and keynote address to be delivered by President Muhammadu Buhari.
