On Saturday, the Niger State Police Command, arrested Jamilu Abubakar a 23-year-old from Babako village in Wushishi Local Government Area on Sunday for murder. Sunday Abubakar was reportedly trailed and arrested by a team of policemen.

Residents of Wannune-Buruku Road in Makurdi, Benue State woke up on Saturday morning to the cries of an infant which was kept in a carton and abandoned by its mother.

The baby was said to have been left beside St. Michael Clinic, Wannune overnight.

 A resident of the area, who identified himself as Sam, explained that the baby was taken to a police station near by

 “The baby must have been kept close to the clinic by the mother in the hope that the medical personnel may pick it up and take it to the police station.

I can’t fathom why a girl would have a child and then dump it, it’s incredible,” he stated.

Our correspondent learnt that dumping of babies in the Wannune by teenage mothers has increased by rate.

It discovered that a set of twins were found by residents of the area some weeks ago, apparently dumped by their mother.

The police could not be reached for comment on the development as the state police spokesman, ASP Joel Musa, did not respond to calls to his phone.

He was yet to respond to an SMS sent to him as of the time of filing this report.
