Small quarters, garages being used as medical colleges: Justice Nasir

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar has ordered to impose a ban over all prior admissions in Medical Colleges across Pakistan.

Expressing anger at the Medical Colleges for charging huge sums from students as their fee, the CJP on Tuesday, December 26, 2017, also sought bank account details of private medical colleges, who had been collecting heavy fees from their students.

He was hearing a suo moto case of exorbitant fees charged by medical colleges at the SC’s Lahore Registry today.

Justice Nisar said, “Small quarters and garages being used as medical colleges. One should tell, what is the structure of a medical college? Details of every medical college should be provided.”

“I was criticised when I paid a surprise visit to Mayo Hospital in Lahore. However, whenever there is a matter of my children’s health, I will go there myself,” stressed Justice Saqib Nisar.

During the visit to Mayo Hospital on December 20, 2017, Justice Nisar directed the bifurcation of males and females wards in an emergency. He had also asked the authorities to make sure that the highest quality of healthcare was provided to all.
